SpineOvations is a San Diego-based medtech company focused on the development of novel, biocompatible injectables for the stabilization of spinal disc integrity and for other orthopedic applications including non-surgical connective tissue repair. Our technology platform consists of a novel non-surgical application for identifying and treating spinal discs that have tears or fissures in order to seal the defect and improve structural integrity. Our primary focus is on the development of DiscSeal™, a percutaneous injection treatment for patients with Internal Disc Derangement (IDD) and suffering from chronic, discogenic lower back pain. DiscSeal is designed to be an early-stage treatment for those patients who have failed conservative care and who are not yet candidates for the invasive surgical treatment options of total disc replacement or spinal fusion, the largest segment of the spine market.

Our new, treatment concept integrates the current diagnostic modality for visualization and diagnosis of a pain generating spinal disc defect with the administration of a permanent injectable implant treatment that (1) fills and seals the disc defect under fluoroscopic guidance; (2) provides internal disc stabilization; and (3) offers the potential for pain relief through these reparative actions, as opposed to methods which disrupt or remove disc tissue. It is anticipated that our injectable tissue engineering approach will delay or possibly prevent the progression of further degenerative spine disease while maintaining the option for more invasive alternatives, should they become necessary. U.S. and International patents are pending for this technology and feasibility studies are in progress.
